Description

The Clumber Spaniel is heavy-boned, low to the ground and has short legs. In comparison, the head is very large. The feathered coat is soft, flat, thick and straight, and mostly comes in white with lemon or orange markings. This dog has been known to be well-liked by royalty, including Prince Albert, King Edward VII and King George V.

Characteristics

Docile, sweet, smart and well-behaved, the Clumber Spaniel will get along with other household animals if it grows up with them. As it gets older, it gets less active. This breed has a good memory.

Health Problems

Some Clumber Spaniels are prone to entropion, cataracts, juvenile lameness, hip dysplasia and dry eyes. They tend to snore, wheeze and drool. Clumbers are prone to skin and flea allergies. They also like to chew, so make sure you have lots of chew toys available, and take care not to let them swallow foreign objects. They can gain weight easily so do not over feed.

Exercise

Young Clumber Spaniels need a lot of exercise but as they get older they slow down significantly. They love playing fetch and swimming.

Grooming

Regularly groom and trim the coat to keep it in good condition. Inspect and clean the eyes and ears regularly too. This breed is a heavy shedder.

Living Environment

A Clumber Spaniel is very inactive indoors and will do fine in an apartment as long as it gets enough exercise. It likes cooler weather.
