First, it goes with our grey minimalist decor - very important :o). Second, and really more importantly, the cats LOVE it. I imagined they would just sharpen their claws on the sisal but they also love to sit on and sharpen on the carpet-covered base and the fluffy material on top. It's a big hit and at this price you really can't go wrong. You don't need (although I'm sure any cat would appreciate) a $400 monster-sized scratching post to keep the house-cats happy. This little one tucks into almost any corner and you will find that they go back to it again and again throughout the day. Save the furniture and buy one, in a colour to suit your home. :o)

Our 9 year old cat has had several poles in the past but has always gone back to this one. We now always have 2 of these poles in the house - an older one and a newer one. The current old one (over 2 years old) is her favourite as the string is now unravelling and she is slowly demolishing the cardboard inner. It looks a mess but she really "goes to town" on it. So what if we have to pick up the bits from it ?! She always seems to scratch counter clockwise so it does unwind off the base at times, which is funny too. Highly recommend. And it is small enough to tuck away to one side and not be a trip hazard.

I bought this to replace a scratching post that m cat had used for over a decade and was looking a bit sad. Was very disappointed with the new one. It's quite small which isn't a problem in itself. The real problem is that it's so light that as soon as my cat scratches on it the whole thing moves towards him. Of course he then stops using it. If he can't use the post he will probably move on to the sofa next! I wouldn't recommend buying as it's not fit for purpose. Don't waste your money :(
