Your Dog is Unique!

Just like humans every dog is different when it comes to their dietary needs, this means your pets feeding requirements will vary depending on their breed, environment, age and activity. The below table and the information on the bag is to be used as a starting point, it is important to monitor your dogs weight and adjust their rations as needed.

As it takes time for your dogs digestive system to adapt to the different nutrient levels in a new food it is important to transition your dog correctly from one food to the next to reduce the chance of your pet having an upset stomach. We suggest you take 7 days to transition your dog from the old food to the new food. Start with the majority of the old food and a small amount of the new food on day one and slowly increase the proportion of the new food while decreasing the old food until you are feeding 100% of the new food on day 7.

We also recommend feeding your dog twice daily and ensure that your dog always has fresh, clean water available to drink.

Serve dry or slightly moistened.  To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

Started with Nutrient Puppy -> Orijen Puppy -> Orijen Adult -> Acana Adult. We were looking to decrease crude protein intake from Orijen 38%. Acana contain 33%, which works well for our GR (1 1/2 at 34kg) who is still very active and will need it for muscle repair or renally excrete excess. The vitamin supplements have done wonders for his coat, which has become healthy and shiny; and most importantly no signs of hot spots so far (which the breed can be prone to and our GR suffer from). No diarrhoea from the direct change-over; well-formed stool and regular bowel movement. Great size kibbles and seems to be very tasty ('suitable for human consumption' as per advertised, it may well be - however, we are not keen to experiment).

We changed our lab onto Acana, from science diet. His coat is so shiney, he has no skin allergies any more, and his muscles seem more defined. Eyes are bright. Ingredients are natural and it shows in my dogs health. More cost effective than science diet too, as the serving size is smaller.

My GR dog loves this. I usually mix a bit of fresh meat with it but even on its own he wolf's it down. His coat and skin have improved too. While pricey it is not the most expensive, and buying the 18 kg bag on autoship makes it comparable to his previous dry food.

WOW. We've tried many foods for my dog (large mixed breed, 2 years old), but this is the first product that ticks every box! I CANNOT FAULT THIS PRODUCT, IT'S AMAZING! The first few foods we tried she either liked or loved the taste, but they clearly lacked nutrition (looking at her digestion and coat!). The next food brand was natural and proved to be very nutritious, but after a couple of weeks she refused to eat it (I think it may have made her feel sick) - she would either skip meals or only eat half. I continued trialing it for a while and she still didn't like it. Keep in mind these were expensive "high quality" foods. We then purchased Acana and I am happy to say that for months now we have been using this and she LOVES it. I have never seen her so excited for her breakfast and dinner before Acana. And what I love even more: while still being extremely nutritious (5 star rating, and also very evident in her coat and digestion), this is good value for money! Yes, it is expensive, but only compared to other foods you find at the supermarket that lack nutrition! It is similar in price to the other top end brands we have been through (and cheaper than others), and as I only give half the amount of what I gave with the other products, it ends up being CHEAPER in the long run! Not to mention, it comes in a 17kg bag. It takes us such a long time to get through the 17kg bag! Talk about bang for your buck! The fact that I never write reviews, and that this is the length of a novel, shows just how highly I think of this product. ACANA IS THE BEST! :)
